Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver diamine fluoride, or SDF, is a noninvasive treatment used to help stop the progression of cavities in children.

What parents should know:

• Does not require sedation or numbing

• Applied quickly and painlessly

• Helps slow or stop cavity growth

• Ideal for young children or those not ready for restorative treatment

SDF is often used as a temporary or preventive option and may darken the treated area. Our doctors will explain when SDF is appropriate and what to expect.

Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide)

Laughing gas is a mild form of sedation that helps children feel relaxed and comfortable during dental treatment.

What parents should know:

• Child remains awake and responsive
  
  
• Helps reduce anxiety and fear
  
  
• Wears off quickly after the visit
  
  
• Parents are welcome to remain in the room during cleanings and laughing gas appointments as supportive, quiet observers

IV Sedation

IV sedation is a deeper level of sedation used for children who need more extensive treatment or have difficulty tolerating dental care.

What parents should know:

• Child is very relaxed and sleepy

• Recommended based on medical history and treatment needs

IV sedation allows dental care to be completed comfortably and safely while minimizing stress for the child.
